“The Mariposa Blend” is an exclusive mix of coffees from three different Micro-Regions of Costa Rica, each of which has managed to secure a long-term and stable position in the international coffee market, showing our commitment to working with the best raw materials and exclusive products that the small Costa Rican coffee producers have to offer, and ensuring the very highest quality for our customers. 

Hotel Mariposa chose to develop its own blend of coffee through a philosophy of DIRECT CONTACT, which means that we work to develop a direct relationship with the producers. This ensures traceability and also gives the benefit of stability, not only in the quality of our coffee, but even more importantly in the lives of the families that form part of the business, as a direct result.

The coffee which our customers can experience at Hotel Mariposa is an original blend from the following three areas of Costa Rica:

THE TARRAZU GRANITOS DE ORTIZ REGION

This business is a success story about a family of four sisters and their parents.

These young ladies convinced their father to invest in a Micro Beneficio (a coffee processing factory) that processes the ripe coffee fruit that their father produces each years into green coffee beans. Don Omar Calderon still runs the Fincas but his daughters now manage the hard work of processing his coffee crop.

In the past few years their products have achieved worldwide reach, from Australia to Japan, England, the US and beyond.

VALLE CENTRAL CERRO ALTO

The Cerro Alto Finca and Coffee Factory is located in the Heredia mountains. This producer also makes up one element of our blend. Winners of national prizes for their high quality, this family boasts many years of experience in coffee production.

Don Fernando and Doña Silvia Vindas and their team have taken the art of coffee production to a new level in their efforts to produce one of Costa Rica’s finest coffees using environmentally friendly techniques.

THE MONTE VERDE COOPELDOS REGION

This co-operative of small coffee makers can be found in the Dos de Tilaran area, a beautiful part of the country near to the Monte Verde Rain Forrest, with its vast variety of flora and fauna.

The organisation is made up of small producers who have managed to establish a steady market for their coffee production in recent years by building long-term relationships with toasting companies in the United States, Japan, and now with the Mariposa Coffee Project as well.

With our project, “The Mariposa Blend”, some of the coffee which the best of our country’s producers would normally export to European, Asian, or American markets, now stays right here in Costa Rica, giving our partners and customers here the chance to taste our export-only quality produce, the like of which is almost unmatched around the country.
